Week 4: I wanna be where the people are...

Image
Hola Familia! Wow. I can't believe it, but I only have about 17 months left in my mission! hahaha. But really the time is flying by in the MTC. I apologize, I didn't get a letter hand written this week, but hopefully next week I can squeeze it in. At the MTC, every second we are learning and growing, or eating and sleeping. When I do have a moment where I'm not doing something, I am memorizing scriptures or vocabulary.  This week was great! On Thursday was Thanksgiving. Most of the missionaries forgot because it was just like any other day. But when we went to dinner, there was a surprise waiting for us! The cafeteria staff had made a nice dinner for us. They put tableclothes on the table with cloth napkins, pitchers of juice, and flowers. Then they served us turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy. It was so nice! The food was a little different than normal thanksgiving, but I was so glad that they made it so special for us. President and Sister Carmack came and sat by ...

Week 3: Big things, Small things, and Hard things

Okay, first I am going to explain all the pictures, and then I will add any extra comments that I dont have pictures of. The one by the fountain is from today. I think I am getting fat from all the bread and the fact that they serve us 4 servings of rice and pasta like it is one hahaha. Tell me if I am getting fat so I can be sad and eat my feelings in ice cream hahahah jkjk. One of the pictures is me by a HUGE Chilean flag. We found it last P-day, and it was pretty cool.  One picture is my foot by my socks. Yes my socks, and not a baby´s socks. In the CCM, there is a lady that does all of the laundry, and for some reason one day, all of the socks got shrunk like super bad. Good thing I am used to wearing socks that are meant for third graders hahaha. One thing that has been hard at the CCM is that when we got there, we all had to take some stuff out of our suitcases, and then put our suitcases in a locked closet. I definitely didnt take out enough clothes, and I forgot ...

Week 2: Futbol, friends, firsts

¡Hola! Wow. This week was exciting and new! After writing my email last week, we had p-day, so we got to go out to the streets and go shopping and stuff. We walked down to Liders, which is the foreign version of Walmart. It was a Liders express, so basically a neighborhood walmart. I was really needing some mints because we are not allowed to chew gum, but I couldn´t find any....oh well. I was also looking for some hard candies, but instead I accidently got some weird caramel ones.....Anyway, then we went to a mall, but it was super sketch. There were like 15 hair salons, and like 3 tailor shops, and then a bunch of closed stores so....ratchet.  I finally have time to tell you about the classes. Here is my schedule for the typical day. Wake up at 6:30. Get ready for the day, and breakfast from 7:30-8. Then we have daily planning with our companion for 30 min, and personal study for an hour. Then we have class. Some classes we talk about how to teach the lessons in Preach my...

Week 1: Sleep, eat, class, repeat

Image
¡Hola mi familia!  I have officially been in the MTC for 7 days. It feels like I have been at this MTC for a month!! Time flies so slow when all we do is sleep, eat and go to class. I have been trying to keep a pretty good journal so I can tell you everything, but I dont think I will ever have time to!  On the airplane from Dallas to Chile, there were probably 20 missionaries. Most/all of the missionaries came from Utah, Wyoming, or Arizona. And a lot of them got their mission calls back in June also, so it was nice to hear that I was not alone. When we got to the airport, I got my suitcase back, and one of the wheels was broken! I was super sad and I tried to find where to replace it before we left the airport, but no one spoke english. I don't know if they just don't replace broken suitcases in Chile, or what. but sorry dad. I really roughly spoke with one of the people taking us to the MTC, but he said I would just have to buy a new one, and that they cost roughly $...

And she's off...

Week 1 .  In June, Eloise received a call to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.   She was assigned to serve in the Chile Rancagua mission and to train in the Santiago MTC, beginning Nov 1.   The wait between June and Nov was a long one but also action-packed.  We renovated our main floor.  Her sister, Maddie, was married October 11.  We also snuck in one last trip to Yellowstone/Island Park. We drove Eloise to the SLC airport yesterday so that she could make the 12 trip to Santiago.  She is an amazing young woman.  We already miss her dearly but she is needed elsewhere.  She wrote this morning that she arrived safe and sound: Hello family! I am safe and in Chile! I had a super long flight, but I am safe here. There were 3 missionaries on the flight to Dallas, and about 15 once we got there. They put all of our bags in the back of a pickup, I will send a picture soon, when I figure that o...
