Week 14: Almonds keep falling on my head
Hey family!
This week was great! I have lots of stories to tell about food, so buckle up. Hopefully you read this after lunch so you arent too hungry.
For the subject line: The other day Hermana Lopez and I did divisions. That means that she went and taught a lesson with a member from the ward, and I was in a different lesson with a different member. I was a little bit scared to do this because I dont really know what I am doing still. But I was with a member name Francesca Flores. She is super nice and sweet and a returned missionary, so she knew what she was doing. Anyways, the lessons went really well and every thing was great. On the way to meet up with my companion, Francesca pointed out that there was an almond tree in one of the streets. The next day I passed it with Hermana Lopez and pointed it out. She was amazed! We picked and ate a couple, even though they werent ALL the way ripe. They still tasted really good and it was a blessing from above (literally, it was a tall tree).
The other food story. There is a lady in the ward named Iris. She was inactive a little while ago, but a few months ago she reactivated and recently went through the temple. She has been key in helping her friend Sonia prepare for baptism (Sonia will be baptised next week). Iris makes bread and empanadas and other things and sells them from her house. The other day we visited her and bought some of her bread. In Chile everyone buys little rolls and eats them with EVERYTHING. Anyways we bought one of the little rolls, and they were still hot from the oven. They were DELICIOUS. I know it is a little silly to think about bread all week, but also I am thinking about Iris and how awesome she is. I am grateful for the help of the ward and for the sisters in the ward that minister to others.
One other story that has slightly to do with bread. This week we received a reference of a guy named Douglas. We contacted him and began to teach him about the restoration. In the middle of the lesson, all of a sudden he interupted and said, ´´How and where can I go to church?´´ It was amazing! People never ask that hahaha. Douglas works in a Bakery and on Saturday he works all through the night. We invited him to church, but we werent sure that he would come. On Sunday we were sitting in the chapel, and in walked Douglas with Sonia and Iris. They sat next to him and were good friends. I am so grateful for them! It made me so happy to see the sacrifices they were making to come to church. I couldnt stop smiling hahaha.
I am so grateful for all of you!! Thank you for sending letters, even though I am terrible at responding! Reading your letters helps me continue for the next week. I love you all so much. Each and every one.
Stay warm in the States,
Hermana Christensen
One more thing about food. Here is a picture of me with my first completo in Chile. hahaha it is ridiculous.
