Week 12: I am engaged!!!
Hi family!,
My companion really likes cats and likes to take random pictures with cats, so...here it is. The kitten is the purrrfect investigator hahaha. no that was bad. Im not kitten, the church is true...bad also...oh well.
I have some exciting news. This week some guy asked me to marry him! Whoo hoo! hahaha We were contacting in the street and we talked to this guy. He asked where I was from, and when I said I was from America, he said he wanted to marry me. It was pretty funny...I said, ”thanks but... I am a servant of the Lord.” The good news is I dont even have to look for a boyfriend when I get back because there are lots of 40 year old men that want to marry me hahaha. But seriously, dont worry it was not a dangerous situation at all.
The truth is, I really am engaged...in GOOD WORKS! Just like it says in DyC 58 v27
27 Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;
This week we had another baptism! His name is Danis. He is also from Haiti and has so much faith! He lives in a house with a lot of other people that dont make very good decisions, but he is still strong in his faith. Also on Sunday one of our people in teaching (We dont use the word investigator anymore) said that she wants to get baptized!!! She has attended church for like two years but still hasnt felt ready for baptism, but this sunday she said she wants to! I am super excited for her!
Here is a picture from the baptism. The elders that are in the picture are our Zone leaders, and they share the ward with us.
This week we had a challenge in our mission to contact 200 people this week. We were behind in the beginning, so we had to contact like 50 people each day. It was super crazy, and super hard, but we did it! We contacted 215 people this week!! In our mission we contacted 13,911 people. This is crazy! I dont even like talking to a lot of people in english, and in spanish it is even harder. But it is important to contact a lot so we can find more people to teach! It is amazing to see that when we have faith that we can accomplish a goal, the Lord will help us do it!
This is a part from my letter to my mission president that I wanted to share
”This morning in my personal study I read the talk “The Vision of the Redemption of the Dead” by Elder Ballard. As I read this talk I thought a lot about the temple and temple work. I am excited to go to the temple when I get home from my mission. I also thought a lot about my family. It is hard sometimes because when I think about the temple I miss my family. But as I read the talk this morning, I thought about my great grandma that passed away about a year ago. I can imagine that my great grandma Gloria and her husband are serving as missionaries in heaven, helping teach the people in spirit prison. This thought gives me a lot of comfort that maybe she is doing the same work that I am.” I like to imagine that grandma Gloria and grandpa are able to serve their mission together in the spirit world.
The good news is that I am in Curicó for another cambio!! (I literally dont know what they are called in english, sorry). I am excited to work more with the members and see the people we teach progress.
Here are some more random pictures but yeah...
This is a picture of us eating cake and a crazy Haitian energy drink. It tastes like molasses. Dont worry, it looks like beer, but it isnt haha
We had a meeting in Rancagua this week for the trainers and trainees and this is a pic of us on the bus. 10 outof 10 would reccomend for lighting. This other picture is with the sisters that are in our zone. Hermana Kline was with me in the MTC, and Hermana Chumorro is from Paraguay. She is super nice and reminds me of Elise.
Sorry I look sweaty in every picture. Its is because I am...hahaha. But, really I love this work!! Sorry that my family emails are so long. Maybe one day I will be able to write more than one email a week, but...today is not that day. I love hearing about all of your fun adventures. Send me lots of pics of the kayaking trip! (since when do we kayak?? oh well. still fun.)
Love you all so much!!
